About the Microsoft Project 2007 Certifications

With the introduction of the 2007 Project and Project Server product line, Microsoft now offers three new certifications for end users. These include a certification for people who use only the Project client application to manage projects, a certification for people who use Project and Project Server to manage enterprise projects, and a certification that includes deep administrator knowledge.

The first two certifications are Technology Specialist certifications while the third certification is a Microsoft Certified IT Professional certification that qualifies as an MCP credential. The primary benefit of becoming certified as a Technology Specialist is that it credentials you with employers certifying your understanding of the tool to manage projects under the respective scenarios they represent. Becoming an MCITP provides professional-level certification valuable for gaining employment in the field of Information Technology and for achieving higher-level Microsoft certifications.

What are the certifications and how do I choose?

Exam 70-632 TS: Managing Projects with Microsoft Office Project 2007 – Targets the Microsoft Office Project 2007 Standard Edition user. In other words, the certification exam does not test for topics that relate to using Project Professional Edition with Project Server. Project Managers who want to certify their knowledge in managing projects using the Project client tool should target this certification.

Exam 70-633 TS: Enterprise Project Management with Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 – Targets the Microsoft Office Project 2007 Professional Edition enterprise super user and includes testing for the skills necessary for a Project Manager to properly use the system and also includes some administrator topics. The exam tests for Project client skills that apply to stand-alone use as well as testing for an understanding of enterprise level skills using the client tool with Project Server to manage enterprise projects. Project Managers who are willing to take on some administrator knowledge and want to certify their ability to manage projects in the Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 environment should select this certification. Note: Administrator-level knowledge is not necessary for the majority of project managers to perform their job, however the test does include administrative knowledge. The exam does not test for all of the skills necessary to serve as a business application administrator in the enterprise environment. Our specal EXAM PREP class versions address these requirements.

Exam 70-634 MCITP: Enterprise Project Management with Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 – Enterprise users who serve as application administrators on the business side who wish to certify their deep knowledge in managing enterprise projects and programs as well as managing the Project Server environment should select this certification.
